Topic for this Saturday, June 19: Jesus as Savior.
“Savior” is closely connected with the question “Are you saved?” which means have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior so you can go to heaven. Possibly there is another way to think of Jesus as Savior. Diana Butler Bass says, “Salvation is not really about heaven; it is not an escape. It is about living beyond fear, knowing that death comes for each of us, often in mundane, quiet ways.” Jesus can be a Savior not because of a promises that we will have life after death, but because of a promise that death need not have any more power in our lives.
