Sunday Preview – August 4, 2024
   

Celebration Sunday |  Communion and Cake!  |  Too often the Christian faith can be framed as a joyless journey. We focus on all the to-do lists – read your bible, pray, serve, go to church; or we (understandably) focus on the hurting in our world and what we can do to bring justice and care. Don’t get me wrong…these are GREAT things to focus on. But following Christ should also be fun! We should celebrate the small things and the big things.

This Sunday, we are going to CELEBRATE! The music is going to be uptempo. The communion bread is going to be BIG chunks of fresh dough. And there is going to be CAKE!

Let’s celebrate what God is doing in our lives and in our community!
Let’s celebrate that we are alive and get to join God in the renewal of all things!

Summer Book Read and Discussion – August 4th

THIS SUNDAY @ 6:30pm | Check-out Kim Stanley Robinson’s book The Ministry of the Future – A novel about the effects of global warming in the not-so-distant future. You can find the book HERE. Even if you haven’t read the book, you are welcome to join the conversation.

Youth Movie Night – Thursday, August 8th @ 7pm

On Thursday, August 8th at 7:00pm, Andrew Hansen (our new Youth and Family Ministries Coordinator) will be hosting this fun night. If your middle school or high school student has a movie suggestion in mind, email Andrew (andrew@peaceumc.com).

Blessing of the Animals – Sunday, August 11th

Join us outside on Sunday, August 11th for a special Blessing of the Animals service. We will have treats for our furry friends, some music, and a short message, and possibly a special guest with wings!

Care-Giving Sunday and School Supply Drive – Sunday, August 25th

Providing care for people is one of the most personal and most rewarding Sacred Pathways. Over the next month, and specifically on Sunday, August 25th, we want to care well for kids going back to school.

There are two ways you can help!

1. On Sunday, August 25th, we will be packing ‘welcome back to school’ bags. Instead of a normal Sunday service, we will eat some good food and get an assembly line going.

2. All throughout the month you can bring school supplies to Peace for the kids at the Good Neighbor Center. The list of what’s needed is HERE.

GARDENING GROUP STILL NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

Enjoy the gardens around Peace?
You can help keep them beautiful all season long by volunteering to water, weed, and deadhead.

We really need you now as we head into a drier and hotter weather pattern.
Two people per week can sign up and share duties.

Peace Prayers

Do you have a specific need?

Do you want to share a specific celebration of gratitude?

Peace Prayers is a space to share specific prayer requests and specific celebrations of gratitude. These are not going to be private…these are public. Our plan is to put them in the bulletin and/ or on a slide in The Commons, and include them in the Tuesday News weekly email.

We invite you to share with one another so we can be a praying people – both in times of hurt and struggle, and in times of joy and celebration.
