You’ve heard it before – voting is not only our right as citizens, but it’s also our civic duty if we want any kind of voice in what goes on in our country. So make your voice heard! Our presenter will be Michelle Witte, Executive Director, League of Women Voters of Minnesota.

She will address the history of the League of Women Voters (LWV) and provide perspective on how women working together to win the vote in 1920 went on to inspire a century of civic engagement that lives on today as LWV continues to empower voters and defend democracy. Learn how YOU can also make a difference by activating your voice in the voting booth and within your local community to have an impact on decisions facing our future.

Michelle Witte
The League of Women Voters of Minnesota was founded in 1919 to further empower voters and defend democracy after the passage of the 19th Amendment which expanded votes for women. Michelle has served as Executive Director since 2017. She is deeply passionate about serving voters through this vibrant nonpartisan organization. She is committed to civic engagement through the work of LWV’s community-based chapters; that’s 35 chapters with more than 2,300 members here in Minnesota and more than 800 chapters throughout the United States.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Michelle has a Public Affairs Fellowship from the Coro Foundation. She has followed the proud League tradition of women in government by serving as an elected school board member for South Washington County Schools. When not working on behalf of our democracy, Michelle enjoys being active in her Woodbury community with her husband Eric and rescue dog Kiwi, and spending time with her two adult daughters.

Retreat Details

Please join us for this special retreat!

Registration and payment for the retreat is again a 2-step process. You need to do both:

1- Register online by May 19.

Be sure to indicate on this form whether you want a massage and any dietary restrictions you may have. A sign-up sheet for massage times will be shared with you. Shannon (Asolare Yoga and Wellness) will accept payment (cash, check, credit card, or Venmo) at the time of your massage.

2- Pay at least your deposit of $200.

(Follow the link above or scan the QR code below.) The cost per person is $326 (this includes a single room, 5 meals, hotel tax, and speaker honorarium; but does not include the cost of a massage). A deposit of at least $200 is due with registration, but you may choose to pay the entire amount at this time. The remainder will be due to Peace by September 15.

We have room for 14 women; please register early.

Besides listening to our speaker, we will spend time getting (better) acquainted, enjoying free time, eating healthy meals, stretching ourselves awake together in the morning, learning a craft, worshipping together on Sunday morning, and potentially watching a movie, making s’mores over a bonfire, and/ or relaxing with a massage. As always, this is YOUR retreat, so if you feel more of a desire to journal in a quiet corner or walk the labyrinth rather than join in a scheduled activity, that’s PERFECTLY FINE!
