Sunday Preview (March 12, 2023)

Join us from February 26-April 9 as we go on our Lenten journey towards Easter. We will be looking at the 7 ‘I AM’ statements that Jesus made in the book of John. These statements re-imagine how we understand the Christ that came, the Christ that resurrected from the dead, and the Christ that empowers us to continue the good work of love and justice.

March 12 | “I am the good shepherd” | Pastor Ed Holland will be sharing a message about what it means to be a good shepherd, and Dave Tidball will be leading us in singing while also directing the Ringers of Peace!

Help Peace Plant a Little Free Library

Here’s how you can help:

  • Make a wish come true for a specific book. We have placed a wish tree in the Commons with wishes hanging on it. Pick up a wish next time you’re in the building, return with the wish tucked into the actual book, and put the book in the designated bin in the Commons.
  • Donate a gently-used book that you’re done with. We’re especially interested in banned books and books that espouse values of our Peace community.
  • Make a monetary donation in the offering plate, specifying the Little Free Library (or just LFL).
*If you want us to buy a particular book from the wish tree in the Commons, please put the wish with your check.
*If you have another book in mind, please write its title on the memo line.
*If you just want to make a donation and let someone else decide on the book(s), that’s fine, too!
  • Make a monetary donation online through Simple Church Giving at https://peaceumc.com/staging/8882/participants-page/giving/. We’ll select a book or books.
  • If you’re interested in helping to keep the library stocked with appropriate material by reviewing its contents occasionally and adding books from our supply, please talk to Cindy Tidball (tidballs@gmail.com) or Bonnie Chlebecek (bchle@comcast.net). We hope to get several people to help with this. If you work with Sign-Up Genius and can help us set that up with a volunteer schedule, please contact one of us, too!

Men’s Connection – A new group for friendship, growth, and coffee!

Men’s Connection is just that…a time for men to connect.

Our next time of connection is Tuesday, March 21st at noon. Bring your lunch and meet us in The Gathering Place. There is no need to sign-up…just show up.

VOICES OF HOPE – How to Sign-up

Laura Clapp, our choir director, shared about her work with Voices of Hope on Sunday, February 26th. She talked about the power of singing as a community that brings people together and provides connection and relationship for those experiencing incarceration. In a place where your identity can be unfortunately attached to the worst thing you’ve ever done, this choir can be a way to reclaim and redefine who you are – a reminder that we are all more than the worst thing we’ve done.

If you’d like to stay connected with what’s happening with Voices of Hope, you can sign up for email updates by going to wearevoicesofhope.org, scrolling to the bottom of the page, and entering your email address.

Peace Prayers

  • Bonita Johnson requests prayer as she has recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of endometrial cancer. Prayers for patience, healing, and strength would be appreciated. Also, prayers for her family during this time.
  • Paula Riel requests prayers of hope, patience and strength for her husband Les, who has pancreatic cancer and recently started chemotherapy. Paula also invites prayers of thanksgiving for everyone who is supporting her and Les through this next journey; his medical team at the Minneapolis VA Hospital, family, friends and the Peace community.
  • Danelle Redding requests prayers for their niece, Emily, who is a young mother fighting MRSA and is currently hospitalized. Prayers for a full recovery and rest.
  • Danelle also requests prayers for their long-time family friend’s 5 year old grandson, who has a very serious brain tumor. Surgery could not remove all of the tumor, Georgio is undergoing intense chemotherapy and is very sick. All prayers needed for this young family!
  • Pam Jacobson requests prayer for her brother-in-law Dave. He had surgery for colon cancer and will start chemo soon. His wife, Cynthia, is nearing surgery for a knee replacement. Prayers for healing and wise doctors and care for the family would be appreciated.
  • Jean Leatherman sends her gratitude and thanks for all the kind cards and prayers for her mother, Mary Anglin. She is recovering well from hip surgery and is now living at The Legacy in St. Anthony. Her new address is: The Legacy of St Anthony, Room 210, 2540 Kenzie Terrace, St Anthony, MN 55418.
  • Bob Koelman’s son, Aaron, has been battling pancreatic cancer since Christmas of 2020. He recently was hospitalized and thankfully seems to be responding well. Prayers for continued healing, for doctors to have the wisdom to know what treatments are best, and for spiritual and emotional strength for Aaron and the entire family.

Do you have a specific need?

Do you want to share a specific celebration of gratitude?

Peace Prayers is a space to share specific prayer requests and specific celebrations of gratitude. These are not going to be private…these are public. Our plan is to put them in the bulletin and/ or on a slide in The Commons, and include them in the Tuesday News weekly email.

We invite you to share with one another so we can be a praying people – both in times of hurt and struggle, and in times of joy and celebration.
