A Service of Prayer, Reflection and Renewal for a Time When Cities Burn
Thanks for joining Peace Time, an audio worship experience with Peace Community of Faith.
The focus for our worship this week will be the events, reactions and ensuing emotions that have spiraled from the killing of George Floyd like a mighty tornado to engulf our city, our nation, indeed the whole world. During this worship experience, we will seek after the strength, courage and hope we need to face these present times and circumstances.
By sharing in these words and music, by sitting in your own sacred space, by breathing in and out we are communing together and are connected. Though not physically present to each other, we are united in spirit and assured that nothing separates us from the love of God that is ours in Jesus Christ (Romans 8:39b).
So, before you listen to the Peace Time audio, I invite you to
1) make a sacred space for yourself or as a family.
2) listen to this moving prelude music:
“It is Enough” by Rev. R. DeAndre Johnson
3) Right before you begin listening take a few deep breaths. With each deep breath in, think to yourself, “I breathe in peace,” and with each breath out, think to yourself, “I breathe out love.
This is the team that created the service for this Sunday morning. From left to right, Gary, Becky, Vee, IsaBella, Cindy, Dave and Neal.

The following questions are also offered as fodder for reflection in light of this worship experience and in preparation for these zoom meetings. Think of them like the food offerings on a buffet table. Dwell on questions that really engage you. Ignore what doesn’t seem fruitful or helpful to you at this time. The questions are not a test to be completed. But properly used, they may provide the means to gain new understandings.
What have you done to reach out beyond your level of comfort to meet and learn about others, hear their stories and be open to their full humanity? What further opportunities can you imagine? What would it take to give them birth?
How have you worked to bring together different individuals, schools, parishes, small groups and/or communities to work together on an issue? What new ideas come to mind? How can you participate in their implementation?
What questions can we begin to ask, and how can we examine the policies of our local, national and international communities to make sure they do not discriminate against minorities and others that have not enjoyed full citizenship in some way?
What efforts have you already made to bring diversity and respect for others into our prayers, our worship celebrations and our holy days and holidays? Can you identify new territory yet to be explored? How could you participate in opening up this new territory?
