As we’ve been reminded by the recent Supreme Court ruling, gun violence at schools, churches, and grocery stores, unjust war, and a pandemic that continues to devastate families and divide communities, there is much in life that is causing us stress and anxiety. What if we desire to yell to the heavens? What if we are angered by others? Where does all of this lead? Is there any hope?
In Genesis 32 we engage the story of Jacob as he prepares to cross the river and meet his brother for the first time in 16 years. Their division runs deep, and the fear is palatable. But on the banks of the waters he wrestles with God. What can this passage teach us about navigating the troubling times in which we find ourselves?
