Below you will find opportunities to enjoy two special Christmas season musical offerings created by Peace Community of Faith musicians.
The Longest Night: A Winter Service of Healing and Hope
When it became apparent that Peace would not be able to hold its Advent Dinner and Christmas at Peace musical celebrations this year, some members of the Celebration Chorale and friends went to work to produce a virtual musical celebration. Singers did much of their part learning on their own and recorded themselves singing their parts individually. These individual recordings, including narrations, were then edited, along with the publisher’s recorded orchestral accompaniment, into the form that you will find at the link below. This music was first performed at Peace for our Christmas at Peace celebration in 2017, a performance that also included live accompaniment by a small instrumental chamber group.
This music was written as a service for those experiencing grief and loss during what is usually considered a festive season. With the effects of the pandemic curtailing many customary holiday festivities, I thought this would be appropriate music for us to share. We hope that you will find viewing this recording a meaningful part of your celebration of the season. Please feel free to share the link with friends who you think might enjoy this music as well.
Songs of the Heart
I hope you have been enjoying the online Peace Advent Calendar that Cindy created for us. Three of the days have included musical selections contributed by our Ringers of Peace. When we started planning the Advent Calendar, I was reminded of a set of Advent/Christmas music that I recorded back in 1994 on cassette tape. I found the tape and converted the music to digital files, but didn’t have time to turn any of the songs into videos. Cindy found enough content to fill all of the days of the calendar and I moved on to other pressing projects. But I did manage to burn these recordings to a CD and have enjoyed listening to them over the past several weeks. Thinking that many of you might enjoy listening as well, I have uploaded the files to my dropbox and included a link below. Besides the music files, there is also a written document, somewhat like the back cover of an old vinyl album, with brief background notes about each song. Most of these 22 songs are not ones that you will hear on store muzac or most Christmas CD’s, but I have found them to be very meaningful over many years of repeated use. I hope you will too.
