Presence! “Shekhinah! (Freeing Jesus, pg. 222) Therein lay hope. . . Against a backdrop of pandemic and violence. . .” (Freeing Jesus, pg. 241) writes Diana Butler Bass. Shekhinah is a word from the Jewish faith tradition that seeks to express the divine “dwelling” or presence of the sacred. To experience Jesus as Shekhinah, a presence of divine grace and love, makes the words in the Gospel of John come true for us today, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” (John 1:14).
