Pastor

Jason Steffenhagen

“Be transformed by changing the way you think” (Romans 12.2). It’s my belief that God is always renewing, reconciling, recreating, restoring, and resurrecting all things. Whether through Biblical exploration, spiritual formation, or justice-infused reconciliation – Peace is a place to simultaneously be known and loved, while challenged to grow and serve. Let’s join God in the good news and the good work of being people of shalom – PEACE!

Our Summer Series: The Music That Made Us

Music has a way of moving us. It moves us to experience emotions we didn’t know we had. And it moves us to ask questions that have been welling up inside us. What songs have resonated with you? What lyrics have put words to your longings and your struggles? How has music touched your soul and impacted your faith? This summer we will highlight the music that has made us.

Our Beliefs & Values

We are happy to share the tenants of our faith.

Love

Peace is a progressive, multigenerational community of faith called to engage our world through the power of God’s love.

We seek to accomplish this by respectfully:

  • affirming that all people are a gift of God’s love
  • nurturing ourselves and inviting all into God’s love and peace through eclectic worship, exploring questions of faith and addressing challenging issues of our day
  • inspiring hope through community action, advocacy and service, taking our faith into the world together.

Mission

Our mission is to witness to Jesus Christ in the world and to follow Jesus’ teachings through acts of compassion, justice, worship and devotion under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

More specifically our congregation…

  • is respectful and loving of all.
  • is a reconciling congregation and welcome members of all sexual orientations.
  • is committed to music in worship.
  • have excellent children, youth and adult education programs.
  • uses inclusive language in our teachings and music.
  • partners with other groups for community improvement.
  • serves the least, the lost and the left out.
  • provides opportunities for fellowship.

Statement of Reconciliation

Peace United Methodist Church is a place of peace for all that choose to enter the doors. We seek to be an inclusive Christian community believing that we are all children of God, and that God loves us all equally regardless of age, race, gender, ethnicity, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, socio-economic background, physical, mental and emotional abilities. As a Reconciling Congregation we specifically welcome lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends, and embrace them as full members of the family of God.

We respect the diversity of opinions and the Scripture, tradition, experience and reason that lead us to various conclusions, believing that prejudice, hatred, and discrimination directed toward any individual or group are contrary to the life and spirit of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we shall work to eliminate prejudice and discriminatory practices within our church, our community, and ourselves. With God’s help we shall strive to build bridges and promote a ministry of reconciliation.

Marriage for All

We, as a United Methodist congregation, have committed to supporting and honoring same-sex marriages in the same way that we support and honor other marriages. We believe that banning same-sex marriage is inconsistent with Christ’s teaching, and the constitution of The United Methodist Church. We fully recognize and assume the risks associated with these commitments, because we are called upon by God, through Jesus Christ, to resist injustice and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves. Our sanctuary is open for all to make a commitment of love and fidelity through Christian marriage.

Key Messages

  1. Faith: God’s love moves us to get curious, practice empathy, and embrace humility to transform our lives, be a safe haven for everyone, and transform our world.
  2. Belonging: As all of us journey toward wholeness, we partner and encourage one another, no matter where we are in our own story, to work toward reaching our highest potential together.
  3. Serving: We are a place for everyone, which is why we strive to remove the barriers that personally and historically keep people from loving relationships. We specifically lean into work with the LGBTQIA+ community, racial reconciliation, creation care, and socio-economic injustices and inequalities.
  4. Aspirations: We hope that all people and all creation will experience sacred rhythm, harmony, and connection, because we are created good and worthy of love.
